Packing Tips
No matter who you are packing for a holiday can be a highly stressful event especially left until last minute, I know that’s me anyway, struggling to cram all my essentials and just-in-case outfits in to my bag, here are some of the best packing tips I have picked up from around the web, to make packing for that holiday a little less stressful.
Reduce by a Third
Everybody’s done it – packed 4 pairs of shorts and then only worn one pair all holiday. Don’t make the cardinal sin of over-packing. Lay all of your clothes on the bed and be ruthless – aim to get rid of a third of what you think you may need. Think colour blocking, and outfit versatility to make the most out of what you do pack.
Towel on Top
What’s the first thing everyone wants to do when they get to the hotel? Go to the beach, of course! Make life easier by packing your towel last – not only will it mean a quick turnaround from landing to lounger, but it will also cover any loose clothing in your case. Win-win! Top tip, pack a thin slightly smaller towel, beach towels are ace but can take up a hefty portion of your suitcase.
Clever Accessorising
A few well-chosen accessories, rather than entire extra outfits, will keep you prepared for any unexpected holiday occasions. Think fancy flip-flops, a beautiful scarf or tie, a smart belt or some fashion jewellery to give your outfit some difference.
Breathing Room
This isn’t a pre-flight meditation technique – we’re talking about your case. There’s no denying that when you return you’ll be packing some serious souvenirs for your friends and family – just leave enough room!
Use a Vacuum Pack
They’re cheap to buy and don’t actually need a vacuum – just roll the air out. They keep all of your clothes packed neatly together and protect them from any spillages. Beware, your clothes may appear to shrink but they’ll still weigh the same. Know your baggage allowance limits.
Wear Your Heavy Items
How many clothes can you wear at once? On a serious note, make sure you wear your heaviest footwear and pack your lightest flip flops. Not only will you save space in your case, you’ll also save on baggage allowance. While talking heavy items, look out for lightweight suitcases, and save yourself a few pounds.
Protect Your Clothes
From covering the soles of your shoes, to making sure anything that could leak is sealed far away from your clothing, and even packing all your clothes inside out. To avoid any unwanted marks or stains which will dirtying up your clothes before you have even had a chance to wear them.
