- Your Kidneys filter the excess protein you have most likely taken on board during the Christmas season. If you drink a glass of cranberry juice each day – it helps to remove toxic build-ups in your bladder and kidneys. This will also increase your levels of good cholesterol and help to get your fat cells moving which, will also aid with removing those few extra pounds too.

New Year Detox!
Christmas can be a hard time for your organs here are seven ways you can help detox your body this January…
- Toxins don’t accumulate in your eyes but the dark circles under them are caused often by lack of sleep which results in poor blood circulation. Help your blood pump a little stronger and clear the dark spots by eating a handful of pumpkin seeds each day. Rich in vitamins C and E, they not just help circulation but also work to prevent age-related cataracts,
- If you had a merry Christmas then it won’t surprise you that your liver might be feeling the strain. Help your liver hangover by using a milk thistle supplement. Studies have found that Milk Thistle is one of the most effective antioxidants for your liver. So, if you keep the party going into 2016, look after your liver properly, and you may also shed a few kilos.
- Even as a non-smoker, roasting those chestnuts on a open fire, and even air pollution can lead to a build up of toxins in your lungs. Consume a head of broccoli each day, to help expel the toxins from your body. Studies suggest that broccoli extract can even help to clear smokers’ lungs.
- Heart Disease kills more people in the UK than anything else, especially around January when people are returning to exercise (Don’t let that put you off hitting the gym though). The solution, simply eat Mediterranean-style food at least once a day. There is a high level of heart-cleansing antioxidants – vitamins C and E – in mediteranean style cuisine containing foods such as Fish, and tomatoes.
- A diet heavy in meat and potatoes can block you up, leading to infrequent toilet visits. This means the waste in your intestines start to grow toxins, which will be distributed throughout your body. Eat at least a cup of the foods rich in fibre each day. Oats, wholemeal bread, brown rice and pasta all fit the bill, as well as figs, dates and even a glass of warm lemon juice can clear you out and will help you keep lean.
- The brain is one of the hardest-working organs in your body which means it needs to be supplemented with antioxidants. To help your memory, grab a handful of nuts each day. Pecans, walnuts and hazelnuts have the highest number of antioxidants amongst all of the nut varieties. You’ll also gain muscle-building protein and omega 3, which is proven to improve brain function.
